Bio / About Kate
Kate Robbins began her personal studies with a 9 month long daily
practice of the Pattabhi Jois Ashtanga Primary Series. Since moving
to California in 2000, she has practiced under the guiding
hands of Victor Dubin and most currently Master Iyengar Instructor
Kofi Busia. In 2002 she completed a year long apprenticeship with
Victor following the standards set by the Yoga Alliance.
In
December 2004 she completed a 110+ hour teacher training in the
Iyengar tradition with Kofi.
Kate incorporates various schools of asana into her instruction
style. Drawing upon her experience with the Mysore, Vinyasa (flow),
and Iyengar styles. Her intuitive linking of postures, emphasis
on proper alignment and the breath along with her infectious enthusiasm
inspire the students into a moving meditation. Relying on her insights
into the Viniyoga (yoga therapy) tradition, Kate is able to provide
individual attention for the unique needs of each student.
Currently deeply inspired by the Anusara technique of John Friend,
she embraces the flow of grace from within.
Kate enlivens her students with a deeper understanding of the anatomy
of the body both physical and energetic. This approach encourages
each student to discover the intuitive voice within, the true Self.
As a dedicated student of the 8 limbs of yoga, Kate encourages
others to follow their own path to awakening. She believes
that the community developed while practicing in a class setting
can encourage an uplifting dynamic.
Kate is deeply inspired to bringing the practice to the children
in our community. In 2003 she lead a seminar to encourage
California Athletic Coaches to incorporate Yoga into their current
curriculum. She uses her experience as
a nanny and her intuitive nature around children to guide the class
on a journey of building trust, providing support and encouraging
release. The emphasis
is on improving the children's body-mind connection and having
fun together. She hopes that the children build a friendship
with the practice that will last a lifetime. She works with
a broad age range of "kids" (ages 6 weeks to 72
years old).
Kate has been practicing Thai Yoga Massage since 2005. Often dubbed "lazy man's yoga", this form of
massage combines rocking, compression and stretches to create a
fluid dance of relaxation. Now including Barefoot Shiatsu (acupressure
done with the feet), the practice unfolds into a global mixture from
China, India, Japan and Thailand. It is Kate's belief that the
combination of regular asana practice and deeply releasing massage
can be exponentially healing for every yogini.
